Controlling access to your place of business is one of the most important things an owner does. Even though we always carefully consider who has keys to the door, there is no easy way to track if keys have been duplicated, or if access takes place outside of normal hours. In the case of many persons who have keys to a door, the question always arises as to who came in last, or caused the situation. Card access systems solve this problem, and give peace-of-mind to business owners’ concerns.

Generally speaking, access control systems consist of an electronic lock, and an authentication device such as a card reader or biometric screen that must be verified before entrance is granted.

Proximity cards are very secure, and most persons have used one somewhere at one time or another. What you may not know, is that using a card to access a door has an audit trail that notes which card was used, when it was used, and can also tell if an unauthorized card was presented in an attempt to open the door.
These audit trails are extremely useful to a business owner. A quick scan of the log will show who requested entrance, along with the date and time. Since the entrance is matched 1 to 1 with a given door, an employee with a card may be granted privileges for some doors, but not others to which they should not have access to.

Card or biometric access systems virtually eliminate the need to re-key locks, as access or denial of an employees’ card access privileges are controlled by the database. If a card is lost, denying that card from being used is fast and simple. Should it be recovered later, it can be re-issued in the same manner.
